Russian Sports massage is a technique developed in the former Soviet Union for its olympic athletes and incorporates specific manual techniques, sequencing and timing to maximize neuro-muscular potential in the athlete. All techniques are absolutely painless and work to optimize the body's ability to increase strength, endurance, muscular power & contractibility and regenerative processes.
The goal of the system is similar to most western sports massage practices, but they involve slower and softer motions with the intent into simulate the effects of exercise without causing soft tissue damage or injury. The use of friction to generate heat within the body combined with vibration, is employed to ease muscle pain, stiffness and increase healing processes. Russian sports effleurage relaxes and calms, while petrissage strengthens and encourages tissue building.
