Prenatal Massage
Moms typically begin prenatal massage near the end of the 1st trimester once prenatal care has been established. You will receive a specialized prenatal massage with comfortable cushion supports in side lying & semi reclined positioning, depending on the stage of your pregnancy. Massage, stretching & hydrotherapy techniques are used to structurally balance muscle groups in order to maintain comfort as your body changes & baby grows.
Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage – to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies, and therapists who are trained in prenatal massage adjust their techniques accordingly.
When you receive a Pregnancy Massage treatment at YupZup Muscle Therapy & Bodywork, you can rest assured you are receiving the best prenatal massage for you and your baby. We have provided pregnancy massage since December 2014 and worked with hundreds of expecting moms. We received our specialized pre-natal training from School of Healing Arts San Diego while studying under Elien D. Alexander (Certified Pernatal, Perinatal and Postpartum Massage Specialist, Licensed Holistic Health Practitioner, Certified Doula from Doulas of North America - D.O.N.A., and Trained in Hypnobirthing with Marie F. Mongan, M., Ed., M.Hy.).
All work is conducted safely in accordance with guidelines established by the American Congress of Obstetrcians and Gynecologists (ACOG), clients are screened for any possible contraindications to massage, accupoints and reflexive points contraindicated for pregancy are avoided and all treatments are tailored to you and your primary health provider's guidance.
Pregnancy massage is typically offerred in the sideline position and uses a super plush pillowing technique to create a literal bed of pillows to comfortably support you and your baby. Be cautious of spas using massage tables with holes cut out for the belly. ACOG has found that thes tables can be dangerous due to restricted blood circulation/supply to the womb during a prenatal massage.
You can safely receive moderately deep massage work and foot massage starting the second trimester and through the remainder of your pregnancy; as long as there are no contraindications to massage present. We have had quite a few pregnant moms tell us that they went to a spa where they were only given a fluff massage; likely because the massage therapist was not comfortable with a pregnant mother and or afraid of somehow hurting the mother or baby. We are confident in our prenatal massage skills and tailor our work to your goals and needs. We can safely and effectively work the sciatic and sacral regions, lower, middle and upper back, hips, pelvic girdle, shoulder girdle, arms, hands, legs, feet, head and the muscles along the spine, etc to reduce pain and soreness and just help you feel better overall.
